Connect Uganda Radio is proud to have helped a stranded mother of 4 to get back to her home from hospital where whe was held for failure to pay hospital bills. The story is, this poor woman went into labour in one of Kampala's hospitals expecting twins. All went well and her twins were delivered and were healthy.
Then can payment for the hospital bill of 80,000 Uganda Shillings, which the family did not have ready. So the hospital management in their infinite wisdom decided to hold her until payment was received in full. She spent over two months in holding at the hospital, and by this time, the hospital bill had risen to about 280,000 Uganda Shillings (about 80 Biritish Pounds - 130 US Dollars.)
The story then caught the attention of a local newspaper in Uganda that reported it. This is how Connect Uganda Radio came to know about it.
We are happy to report that with our humble contribution of 330,500 (100 British Pounds - 170 US Dollars) the mother of four is now out of hospital and home safe.
Update:
We have now found out that the woman is Sylvia Kembabazi and that she is actually a mother of 6 not 4 as we earlier had thought! Has 2 sets of twins and 2 other kids. She revealed this while talking to Mike and Queenie on Connect Uganda's Family Sunday Show on 31 October 2010.
Anyone wishing to help, please call Jenniffer Ndegemu on +256772609364. Jeniffer is the care taker, works with the local police.
Also, we learnt from talking to Sylvia that her husband (man?) abandoned her. So she might be more desperate for help.
Below is the full story as it appeared in the local newspaper
