The Family Sunday Show of 07-12-08 prompted quite a debate mainly about a caller who identified himself as one of the many sons of the late Idi Amin Dada (1925 – 16 August 2003).
Following his phone call, the studio then received a direct response from a listener who was not happy about the fact that Connect Uganda had given an opportunity to a relative of the late Idi Amin to say something live on air.
What followed was a bag of mixed reactions mainly on email and in the chat room. The reactions soon shifted from the two callers to Idi Amin.
What I later discovered as the presenter of the programme that day was how much we did not know about Amin. To many, the name Amin is synonymous to some unpleasant memories. While to others, he was the last patriotic leader Uganda lost.
Connect Uganda would like to hear from you if you know or remember anything about Idi Amin.
- What sort of leader was he?
- How does he compare with Uganda's leaders of today?
- What were his achievements for Uganda?
- What were his weaknesses?
His family remembers him as "a good father, wonderful husband, a great leader who kept the country together, a founder of economic independence in Uganda and one who united Ugandans of all religious denominations." - http://alemiamonye.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
We are hoping to get healthy and mature responses. For that reason, any response that is deemed unfit for this site will be dully removed.

He was in power when some of us were not even born, all I here about this MAN is mixed messages, especially from abroad.
Idi Amin was seen as a dectator duri ng his regime, this man was illetrate but he managed to do something which those who are thought to be
genius have failed to achieve,For me,I don't want to preach a message of hate abt this president, but as we well know,he made some mistakes during that era,but even the people who now in power are still making similar even worse mistakes than those he did.
Guys I want to tell you this,Idi AMIN WAS NOT TAKEN SERIOUS BY the western world, they considered him as joke, thats why he managed to pill it off and become famous even when he passed away, his name still sounds better than those in power.
Africa was during his regime, still AFrica Looks the same in terms of governance, and it will be the same unless our politicians get brain washed.
All the M........PRESIDENTS,ARE DEEMED TO BE THE AMINS OF TODAY,SO WHERE IS THE DIFFERENCE?
IF YOU PEOPLE REALLY CARE ABOUT AFRICA,AND REALLY LOVE AFRICA,YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE MADE THIS ISSUE A BIG DEAL,COZ LOOK AT WHATS HAPPENING IN ZIMBABWE,ALL AFRICAN HEAD CANT DO ANYTHING ABT THE SITUATION,BUT TZ STOOD UP ALONE TO TOPPLE AMIN,AND THOSE ARE 30YEARS AGO.
I STRONGLY CONDEMN WHAT IDI AMIN DID BECAUSE IN MY FAMILY,WE'RE VICTIMS OF HIS REGIME,BUT STILL I DONT CONDON WHAT THE CURRENT REGIMES ARE DOING TODAY.
AKUUME
GOD BLESS AFRICA
