Crippled’ beggar runs off
By Joseph Ssemutooke
A man who was pretending to be a crippled beggar shocked traders on Luwum Street in Kampala recently, when he stood up and ran for his life.
This followed an argument between the beggar and a trader, on whose verandah the former was seated.
After seeing a white passer-by give the beggar dollars, the trader confronted the beggar demanding that he pays his weekly dues for doing business outside his shop.
The trader claimed he had made an agreement with the beggar that he was supposed to pay sh5,000 every week. But the trader only ridiculed him, saying he was shameless to demand money from a cripple.
The trader tried to forcefully extract money from the beggar, who to the disbelief of the onlookers, ran off.
