There is a famous saying; Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder-, and with that assurance, some women have embarked on a mission to redefine beauty, with fake hair extensions, fake nails, for some, fake boobs, but sincerely ladies, why fake it, when you are blessed with the real thing? Women today are evolving faster than you can blink.
Gone are the days, when the woman was the submissive creature, nowadays most women, are the controllers of their own destinies, which is commendable. But what is evolving too, is the definition of beauty- from real woman, to made up woman, and as a man, I’m getting confused. What is considered beautiful in today’s woman? I have a female friend, who works for a bank.
She spends all her weekends, in salons, beautifying herself- one week it’s the fake nails, the other week, it’s the fake eyelashes, and recently, she even enquired about breast tightening (talk of “beauty evolution”).But when I asked her why she tortures herself, she claimed, she just wants to look “beautiful”, and also, she is looking for a man to settle down with, hence the endless salon visits. And that is where I believe most women get it wrong.
Why would a woman wear so much fake stuff, and still claim to be looking for a real man, when she herself isn’t “real”, moreover, I believe most men can tell if they are attracted to a woman, whether she has fake nails or not. And a woman, who is not under any pressure, to see if her fake lashes are still on, or the hair piece is in place, can be herself, and that is one of the most attractive things to a man- just being yourself.
I must admit, some of us men, don’t know what we want. One day we say we want natural women, the next day; we are following Lil Kim wannabees all over the place. It’s a shame, but some men are enticed by the “fakeness” of a woman, essentially because we are visual species, we love the “appearance” of a woman, and I believe, that is one of the reasons, why some women are forced to go the extra mile, in trying to define what we men find beautiful and appealing to the eye.
Another reason for “faking it”, could be what I call the “Hollywood effect”. If the singer Beyonce, is rocking long hair extensions, then its long hair extensions for our sisters down here. Most women in Kampala, if not the majority, are copy-cats of western fashion, from head to toe, which is not bad.
But, it only becomes a problem, when the copying gets out of hand, and before you know it, what is considered “fashionable” in the western world, is considered “beautiful” to our ladies down here.
Case in point is the fake nails, fake eye lashes, hair pieces that some of these ladies put on especially on such important days like kwanjulas, graduation ceremonies, wedding days, all in the name of looking “beautiful,”they are not a true measure of beauty.
Now ladies, be proud of what God blessed you with, besides, what is more beautiful than inner beauty? Let go of the fake everything, we want to see the real you day and night.
