Helping Aisha Nabukeera is difficult too! 1 Year, 3 Months ago
A few of us here in the USA have volunteered to help with accomodation arrangements for Aisha, but the discussion on the Ugandan side is long.

Mr.Gashumba does not or is not willing to trust Ugandans here in the USA in my opinion and the reason is not clear to me.

We have communicated to him and have written clear statements via electronic e-mail declaring that we only want to help with no expected payment, but he has been relactant. I do not know the cases in Uganda well, but the little i know is that he believes he can do a lot of it my himself. I suspect some behaviour of manipulation, but i will not lay my fingers on that yet.I think it just confuses when people who offer money are the most vital in this case more than those who are offering free services or almost nothing. Mike please update us on this issue before the world stops helping Aisha

Oprah to interview Aisha Nabukeera 1 Year, 2 Months ago
DARIUS MUGISHA

KAMPALA

AISHA Nabukeera, the 14-year-old girl who was severely burnt reportedly by her stepmother in 2006, is set feature in The Oprah Winfrey Show. The show is hosted and produced by Oprah Winfrey in the US.

Nabukeera's caretaker, Mr Frank Gashumba, told Daily Monitor on Thursday that early this month, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation contacted him, seeking permission to film and host Nabukeera and her care-taker on the popular syndicated talk show.

He said the show would be aired sometime in June next year. Mr Gashumba said a crew flew into the country last week to film Nabukeera in her private life. "The crew captured Nabukeera's current state and took footage of all pictures from the time the disaster befell her and before," he said.

Mr Gashumba said among other areas the crew filmed, was Nabukeera's former school, her childhood home in Masaka District, Masaka Referral Hospital (popularly known as Mulago) where Nabukeera was first operated and Masaka Magistrate's court where Mr Gashumba first met the girl and her mother. She will fly on November 3.

Also filmed were Katalemwa Cheshire Home, where the girl had her second operation and Mengo Hospital where she had the recent operation. "The Oprah Foundation coordinator contacted Shriners Hospital for Children in Texas USA, the hospital where Nabukeera will have her major operation and they gave them my contacts," Mr Gashumba said.

Last week, President Museveni accepted to foot costs of Nabukeera, her mother's and a translator's one-year stay in the US.

What seems to interest me most is the fact that Mr.Gashumba ISN'T mentioned as among the travelling party.Or was it a typo omission?
