Are men giving up on us? 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I wonder why I keep getting left behind! Not that I want to catch up always, but I still can’t help looking at the crowd running on ahead of me and wondering what went wrong in my own hard disk programming…

The other day, a friend was fussing about his cat’s furniture. Yes, cat. And he was printing out pictures off the Internet for swings and pouches that he planned to have a carpenter install for the cat.

You should have seen the incredulity on the girls’ faces. It is amazing when a guy complains about splashing money on a girlfriend (they call it detoothing) but will stop at nothing to spoil a pet.

When we pointed that out, he was quick to defend the cat. It is very loving, runs to the balcony when it hears his car drive in and stands on two legs to purr appreciatively as he opens its can of cat food.

So it purrs, but who says a good girl cannot meow appreciatively as you open her jewellery box?!

He argued that when he is in the bath tub, the cat watches silently from atop the toilet seat… But a good girl would jump into the tub with him! And why have a cat hanging around in the bathroom with you at a time when you should be splashing in the tub with your two-year-old son?

The more we listened to him describe his tireless hunt for cat soup (you should hear him talk about which supermarket has the best…), our disgruntled groans were becoming louder.

It would sound petty for a girl to be jealous of a cat, but I think I would be jealous of this particular cat. Where I am used to cats coming in as mercenaries to rid the house of rats, this cat does not eat mice or any raw meat for that matter.

In fact, its owner’s crisis is that the cat now prefers rabbit-in-gravy to its usual rabbit-in-jelly. Hahaha! This diet switches with tuna, chicken or beef. He regularly shampoos it, takes it to have its coat brushed and sees a vet at a consultation fee of Shs 20,000.

So why aren’t guys as eager to spend on a girl that much anymore?

When someone noted in disgust that he risks having his girlfriend smash the attention-grabbing cat through a window, you should have seen how his face fell!

Right now, it is just him and the cat though and he has discovered that cats don’t have mood swings, unlike other animal species he knows of…

Soon the debate had drawn in another pet enthusiast who said she once kept a lame rat and a parrot that was [moment of silence please…] eaten by the neighbours next door. The apologetic – but satisfied – neighbours tried to ‘pay back’ later with a raven, but the pet lover was understandably inconsolable!

Well, since cats are now into rabbit-in-gravy, it makes sense that we just rear the mice as pets…

They wouldn't dare! Pussy cats are just that. They have no brains, cannot become civilised and are simply too independent to really love someone else. We can be them and much more!!! Walalalala!!!!
