Nkoyooyo Abandons Lubiri Redevelopment, His Kenyan Deputy Starts Evicting Baganda From Kabaka’s Land



The January 30, 2008 issue of Museveni’s Bukedde newspaper reported that retired bishop and Regional Tier champion Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo had abandoned his campaign to bring Indian dukawalas and Balaalo pretend-investors into Kabaka’s Lubiri (see ‘Ssente eziyooyoota Olubiri zitubuze’). Museveni’s Luganda mouthpiece quoted Nkoyoyo as saying that the membership of his Lubiri Development Committee had dwindled from 16 to 5. The unanswered question is how Nkoyooyo and his foreign advisors (see “Nkoyooyo In Tactical Withdraw On Lubiri, Seeks Input From Baganda”) would refund money that he had been given by Museveni’s fake investors who were intent on messing up the Lubiri.



A reliable sources inside Mmengo now tells Sekanyolya that the decision by Mmengo to evict many families from Kabaka’s land in Kigo might be connected to the collapsed Lubiri deal. The eviction was reported by Museveni’e New Vision (“200 families face eviction from Kabaka’s land”). The source says, “Some of us who have watched Mmengo deals for a while believe that the decision by the Buganda Land Board to evict more than 200 families from Kigo and, purportedly, lease the land to an unnamed investor is connected to the Lubiri redevelopment deal. Why hide the investor’s name when everyone in Bulange knows that it is Edward Nsubuga a member of Nkoyooyo’s Lubiri Development Committee? We think that once the Kigo land is cleared it will likely be used to pass money under the table through dubious plot sales. So, watch for attempts to subdivide!”



Sekanyolya’s source explains that, Kenyan Edward Mudigos Nsubuga has been in perpetual financial problems with his Ranch on The Lake for more than 10 years. And he has been rescued from foreclosure by various money launderers. “This man has no clean money to lease a huge piece of land like and evict Baganda. That is why mafia money is suspected at this time. If that is not the case, then why doesn’t Mmengo come clean and tell Baganda who the investor is and other details so that Kabaka’s name may not be soiled by Museveni’s newspapers. Surely, it looks bad for Kabaka to be reported as evicting poor Baganda at a time when he is instructing his subjects to fight for against the occupation. The Tombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi constitute a site embracing almost 30 ha of hillside within Kampala district. Most of the site is agricultural, farmed by traditional methods. At its core on the hilltop is the former palace of the Kabakas of Buganda, built in 1882 and converted into the royal burial ground in 1884. Four royal tombs now lie within the Muzibu Azaala Mpanga, the main building, which is circular and surmounted by a dome. It is a major example of an architectural achievement in organic materials, principally wood, thatch, reed, wattle and daub. The site's main significance lies, however, in its intangible values of belief, spirituality, continuity and identity.



Justification for Inscription



Criterion i The Kasubi Tombs site is a masterpiece of human creativity both in its conception and its execution.


Criterion iii The Kasubi Tombs site bears eloquent witness to the living cultural traditions of the Baganda.

Criterion iv The spatial organization of the Kasubi Tombs site represents the best extant example of a Baganda palace/architectural ensemble. Built in the finest traditions of Ganda architecture and palace design, it reflects technical achievements developed over many centuries. Criterion vi The built and natural elements of the Kasubi Tombs site are charged with historical, traditional, and spiritual values. It is a major spiritual centre for the Baganda and is the most active religious place in the kingdom.

What if they make their so called developments, and next year, the Masiro are wiped off the World heritage list? There is more to these royal sites that what meets the eye. A lot off history is written in their construction. Look at the Lubiri, it’s round with a triangular attachment that points to the north east to the royal tombs. The royal tombs are triangular with a main gate that points to the west. The elders used to say, the royal tombs attracted tourists because it had things in common with the burial places in other ancient worlds, like of Egypt and Macenia(sp). The burial is on top of the hill and triangular, of which is said that, the Egyptians built Pyramids because they lived in flat desert with no hills for their royal burial places. Plus, like it was in Egypt, and some other ancient places, the gate looks west, because it was believed, this is where the gate to heaven is.



This is just more than land for development, it’s already more developed than most understand. Seems like our elders didn’t listen to theirs. Think people, the palace area of the English Queen, has a hunting ground.

Nkoyooyo In Tactical Withdraw On Lubiri, Seeks Input From Baganda



Someone seems to have convinced Bishop Livingstone Nkoyooyo and Edward Mudigosi Nsubuga to, at least, behave like they are listening to Baganda regarding Lubiri redevelopment. Just days after Sekanyolya reported about the influence of non-Baganda on the Lubiri Development Council (LDC) (See Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo Increases Influence of Foreigners over Lubiri Redevelopment posting of September 30, 2007), Bishop Nkoyooyo put out public announcements inviting Baganda to send their ideas to the LDC. It is too early to tell if the decision by Nkooyoyo, Edward Mudigosi Nsubuga, William Kalemanzira and Collin Hughes Sentongo had anything to do with the Sekanyolya posting. However, a highly reliable source at Mmengo emailed Sekanyolya today to say that the September 30th posting put smiles on the faces of at least two senior Mmengo officials who are frustrated with Nkoyooyo’s total disrespect towards Baganda people.



When contacted by phone, Sekanyolya’s Kampala based legal consultant was emphatic. He said, “This can only be a tactical withdraw for Nkoyooyo. The few Mmengo officials and LDC members who are involved in [b][b]this scandal already ate people’s money. I mean money from Banyankore, Banyarwanda and Indian thugs who would even kill their own mothers for ten million Shillings. Things are now in the control of the thugs but they are likely to give Nkoyooyo and team a little breather because of CHOGOM. It is these thugs that Baganda should focus on and ignore Nkoyooyo’s bogus calls for ideas. If he really wants ideas, let him ask the more exposed Baganda in London, Sweden, USA or Canada. Not only we, the hungry lot.”



In a related but separate development, Sekanyolya has received information that one or more of its readers in Mukono University forwarded Sekanyolya’s September 30, 2007 posting on Nkoyooyo to a few top religious leaders in Buganda, two days before Nkoyooyo’s public solicitation of Baganda ideas began.from Sekanyolya
