Well,this isnt the very 1st Film about Idi Amin,I recall we were still toddlers when a Film about Amin " The Rise and Fall of Idi Amin" was released.

I think this was during the Obote 2 era.

Though this was a pioneer,The Last King of Scotland stands out,in terms of Production, Casting and the Screenplay. With modern technology,in my opinion it played a great role in shaping what many called a success,and a true portrayal of the man.

Whereas Rise and Fall was shot on location in neighbouring Kenya,to give it a true African taste,this was shot on the Ugandan soil,making it portray more of what you would expect as content.

With regards to both Idi Amin characters,I think Rise and Fall's Joseph Olita had a closer resemblance to Amin than The Last King Of Scotland's Forest Whitaker.

Overall,The Last King Of Scotland excelled in more ways than most

Phad you remember a film that was released when you were a toddler? OR you remember seeing it in the Bisakaate when you were a teenager? Back to the point, In the DVD extras, they talk about this being the first film on Idi Amin as president after his death. Becasue there was also the on about the Raid On Entebbe.

I agree with you that this film had better picture and maybe audio quality than the tohers before it. I think both actor who played Amin were as convincing can be, but I've always liked Whitaker's work. And Washington was very good too in her role as Kay.

Now let's look at the substance-

Meli quoted;

QUOTE:

Kevin McDonald -Directed the Film; "Apart from Mandela, Idi Amin is the most famous African ever in history. Something about him is more fictional than real. He represents all that is worst and savage in the dark continent. Cannibalism and witchcraft, multiple partners..."

Saying these words, wasn't this director disrespecting us African people? This film showed an Amin of a weak character who depended on a freshly graduated white wee-doctor to tell him what to do. The writers knowledge of the forces that motivated Amin is wanting.

I for one take fiction for somekind of a joke, and as a Ugandan I don't feel it's yet time to joke about this.

Spot on Kalibatanya.

Though to paint a picture and being a bit more precise, I was in Primary 2,when it was brought for viewing ku somero,one sunday evening.I remember lower primary students sat on the floor,and i was among those. And some years later, I managed to watch it again, during the Bisaakaate Video boom years,but this time I had to pay, and sat on a Bench!

Well, that was a stroll down the memory lane!
