A Birmingham man is to be honoured for risking his own life to save a woman who was hanging from a 16th-storey window of a tower block.

Michael Mulambuzi, from Ladywood, clung on to her foot after she became trapped between the window and the frame while trying to commit suicide in October.



He risked being pulled to his death by holding on to her until paramedics arrived to drag the woman to safety.



Mr Mulambuzi will receive a Good Citizen award at Thursday's ceremony.



Two police officers, Det Cons Lee Trinder and Colin Conlon, will also be honoured for entering a burning house to rescue its occupants.



Ch Supt Ian Dodd said: "All three men made extraordinary acts of bravery to save the lives of others without hesitation or concern for their own welfare.



"It is important to recognise their acts and it is great to be able to reward them with commendations."



The men will receive their commendations at the Police Authority Awards ceremony at Tally Ho, Pershore Road, Edgbaston.
