Katikkiro In Poison Scare
The Presidential Guard Brigade is now protecting Buganda Premier, Eng. JB Walusimbi after the latter received a bouquet of life threats, Red Pepper exclusively reveals.
Reliable palace sources revealed that troubled Walusimbi telephoned the President’s office and asked for security after radical Baganda henchmen threatened to behead him and hang his head at the main gate of Bulange, Mengo for hobnobbing with Museveni- whom the mafias say has not given them ‘ebyafffe’.
Troubles for Walusimbi kicked off recently after it emerged that he had been secretly receiving mouth-watering briefcases of dollars from State House, an action the radical wing of anti-Museveni Baganda considers as betrayal.
Matters were also worsened after anti-Museveni mafias threatened to slaughter the Katikkiro over the reported controversial shs350m he received from Finance Minister Syda Bumba on President Museveni’s directives.
A self-styled Baganda mafia gang which has since covered its identity last night circulated countless alarming notices in the city appealing to all Baganda to rise up in arms and hold the ageing premier accountable for his actions.
“The broker (Walusimbi) must voluntarily return the tax payer’s money fraudulently obtained and apologize to the 8m Baganda.
If not, let him prepare to face our wrath,” the threatening notice reads in part.
Last Monday morning, furious Walusimbi told off Buganda’s 16th Lukiiko session that he is too rich to be bought by shs2bn he received from government as poverty eradication funds as critics had repeatedly maintained.
“I heard many on radios and read in newspapers implying the Katikkiro has been bought to betray the Baganda but let me tell you I didn't come hear to get anything but to serve,” he roared.
Nevertheless, the mafias’ hair-rising notices further call upon all Kabaka’s subjects to convene at Bulange, Mengo on May 10 for a crisis meeting where the distressed Katikkiro’s fate will be decided.The mafias fiercely note: “Walusimbi went to negotiate for Federo, our 9000sq miles, county headquarters but has returned with shs350m. This means every Muganda has been sold at shs43!!”Sources in Mengo told this reporter that the determined mafias behind the bring-down Katikkiro plot are some radical members in the vibrant Nkobazambogo, a youth wing of Buganda kingdom.
“The notices were mainly circulated in Makerere University where Nkobazambogo fellows are mainly based before they reached the city.
This behaviour must be condemned. We have avenues of solving our grievances,” a senior Buganda official preferring anonymity said on a telephone interview last night.Meanwhile, chilling reports also emerged yesterday indicating how the premier is no longer using Bulange materials for fear of being poisoned.
“He carries his own flask of tea, a food flask, and fears to go to the toilet over poison threats. He carries his fork, spoon, serviette and knife in his briefcase. He keeps all his office key copies with himself. While being chauffeured, he keeps a close eye on his briefcase and the driver,” an insider intimated to us.
