Kingo and JJ - I appreciate your postings and I am definitely very pleased that for once and all, persons are putting in to actions their words. It fills plenty of us with pride.
For the last 5yrs now since I've started traveling back & forth to Ug, I've been puzzled as to the "politics" which govern persons on ground. I am still non the wiser.
Taking things down to a lower level, from a personal perspective and this is not to generalise btw...the conflicts within my own family have not given me much of a positive angle to trust those empowered with cultural rulings. Having witnessed abuse of cultural practice by the very persons who are chosen to be the "protectors" of what ought to be the cultural way of life, I am hesitant to look at external persons alien to my culture to apportion blame. The rot in my experience is from within and not external. I am therefore less surprised by what is played out by those in far higher posts of governance. Those on the "outside" merely take advantage of what is played out.
What can we do as individuals to make a difference even on a small scale? You don't save the whole world by giving a beggar some loose change - but to that beggar, you make a difference to their current situation.
I'd be of the opinion of returning to the roots of what was our foundations.
When elders or clans people are willing to be bribed in order to benefit at the cost of orphans within their protectorate or when abuse of power from within families is the normal practices just because one person happens to be wealthier than the other, then it becomes very difficult to argue the point of collective community action.
"Community" is something that has to perhaps be re-learnt in our social setups alongside transparency in our actions if we are to move as a "whole" instead of spending so much energy fighting not only amongst ourselves, but against all that there is.
Perhaps its down to the fact that our tribe is a collection of inter-tribes and/or which now are fighting to assert their origins.
There is a play that I recently came hold of "The Hidden Truth - Amaziima amakweeke". This play more or less lays bare the rot that is like a cancer in our tribe. We have to acknowledge our own mistakes and take steps to redress these mistakes. The energy we expend counter-arguing could be best placed in finding and implementing ways that can best assert our aims.
Let our actions bear worthwhile fruits instead of causing despondency.
Thanks once again for the updates on this road - it holds a lot of meaning to me personally - and YES WE CAN to those that have been happy to see our in-fighting eat up our aims and objectives over the years.
