In brief:
Asylum seekers with claims outstanding for 12 months through no fault of their own can now apply to the UK's Home Office for permission to work in specified jobs on the occupation list.
Before this change in ruling, asylum seekers in the UK were not normally allowed to work whilst their claim was being considered. They were instead provided with accommodation and basic financial support to meet their essential living needs.
If this information is relevant to you, or someone you know, you are strongly encouraged to read this guidance document published by the Home Office.
